Setup
Will switching to Handsome change my products or orders?
No. Products, collections, customers, orders, pages, menus and blog posts belong to your store, not the theme. Only the look and the content you place in sections change.
How do I make a different layout for some products?
Create an extra template in the editor (template selector at the top → Create template), design it, then assign it to products in admin under Theme template. Do the same for collections and pages.
Why does my collection page show a placeholder banner?
The banner uses the collection's image. Upload one in Products → Collections → (collection) → Collection image. A landscape image works best; the theme crops it to each shape it needs.
The built-in All products page (/collections/all) can't have a collection image. Set one in the theme editor instead: open the collection page, select the Collection banner block and add a Desktop image (and optionally a Mobile image). Any collection without its own image uses it too.
How do I show star ratings?
Install a reviews app that saves ratings to Shopify's standard product rating fields (most do, for example Judge.me, Loox and Okendo). Ratings then appear on product cards and the product page automatically. Turn them on under Theme settings → Product card → Rating.

What image sizes should I use?

My product photos are cropped differently on cards and the product page
Set Theme settings → Product card → Aspect ratio to match your photos, or choose Adapt to image. For photos on white, 1:1 (square, no crop) shows the whole product.
Menus and navigation
A mega menu isn't showing
Check the block's For item matches the menu item's name exactly, including capitals, and that the item has child links in Content → Menus.
The collection bar shows the wrong links
The subcollections bar reads its links from a menu. Open the Collection section, check which menu the bar uses, and edit that menu in Content → Menus.
A subcollection shows a placeholder instead of a photo
The bar uses each linked collection's image. A link that filters a collection by tag (for example Dogs → Toys, linking to /collections/dogs/toys) uses the photo of the first product in that collection with the tag. Links that aren't collections at all, such as a page, show a placeholder: link to a collection instead, or switch the bar to Pill buttons or Text links.
Cart and checkout
The free shipping bar says one thing but checkout charges shipping
The bar only shows progress. Create a free shipping rate with the same minimum order in Settings → Shipping and delivery.
Customers see a Pre-order button
Products with the tag set in the Add to cart block's Pre-order tag show Pre-order instead of Add to cart. Remove the tag, or clear the setting.
Performance
How can I keep my store fast?
- Upload images no larger than about 2500 px wide.
- Use one video at the top of a page at most; put other videos lower down.
- Remove apps you no longer use, and check whether they left code in your theme.
- Keep the home page focused: every extra section adds to the page.
